Admission of students in colleges as per new NEP: Sharadindu Chowdhury

Agartala, June 27, 2023: The admission process of students in 25 general degree colleges of the state has started from June 16 last and will continue till July 14 next, Secretary of the Education department Sharadindu Chowdhury said at a press conference in Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday.

He said that this year, initiatives have been taken to admit students in degree colleges according to the new national education policy.

As per the new National Education Policy, the colleges will have 4-year degree courses with vocational, values. A certificate will also be issued to a student who transfers before the completion of the course. According to the new National Education Policy, students will be awarded marks for class attendance, which can be used for side effects, he added.

Chowdhury said that the new National Education Policy has been introduced in the state’s 25 general degree colleges, Tripura University (Central) and Maharaja Bir Bikram University from the academic year 2023-24.

He said, according to the new national education policy, every student will be admitted to the colleges. Currently there are 28 thousand 342 total seats in 25 degree colleges. 49 thousand 662 applications have been submitted for admission this year. Students will be admitted to various colleges on the basis of merit. Those students who could not fill the form for admission due to various reasons will be admitted through spot round.

The Secretary said that the state government has taken various initiatives for the infrastructural development of general degree colleges. Rs 8 crore 80 lakhs have already been spent on the beautification and repair of Maharaja Bir Bikram College. Also, for the infrastructural development of Netaji Subhas Mahavidyalaya, Udaipur, work worth Rs 40 crore has been undertaken through the Golden Jubilee Tripura Nirman Yojana.

Higher Education Department Director NC Sharma was also present in the press conference.
