Agartala, 25th June 2025: The Agartala Press Club’s much-anticipated Sports Fest – 2025 led by the Sports Sub-Committee officially commenced on May 24 and has now gained traction with scheduled dates for two major events. According to a decision taken at a Sports Sub-Committee meeting held today under the chairmanship of Alok Ghosh, the chess competition will be conducted on July 6 followed by the football tournament on July 13.
Press Club Secretary Ramakanta Dey, who was present at the meeting, informed that the official inauguration of the chess competition on July 6 will take place at 12 noon at the conference hall of Agartala Press Club. The inaugural session will be graced by President Pranab Sarkar, Vice President Chitra Roy, Secretary Ramakanta Dey, Assistant Secretaries Abhishek Dey and Kamal Chowdhury, Treasurer Ranjan Roy and other executive members. Participants in the chess event have been instructed to report by 11:30 am at the venue.
For the football tournament, which will follow a Premier League format, an open player selection will be held on July 8 at the Press Club, during which team names and team compositions will be finalized. The tournament will feature only member journalists of the Agartala Press Club.
Journalists wishing to participate—particularly in the chess tournament and football competition must register their names by July 6 along with the name of their media house and contact number.
The meeting of the Sports Sub-Committee witnessed the active presence of Assistant Secretary and Convener Abhishek Dey, Joint Convener Suprabhat Debnath and committee members including Abhishek Debbarma, Santosh Gope, Suman Ghosh and Prasenjit Saha. Details regarding the cricket tournament and other indoor events will be declared in the coming days.
In an official statement, Convener Abhishek Dey conveyed this information to the media houses emphasizing the spirit of healthy competition and unity among media professionals through the Sports Fest 2025.
