Agartala, 29th April 2025: Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath made a special visit to Narayan Sarkar’s thriving watermelon farm in the Kanchanmala area this afternoon lauding the farmer’s exemplary efforts in agriculture and vegetable cultivation.
Narayan Sarkar, whose agricultural land lies adjacent to Kanchanmala Lakshmicharda School under Golaghati assembly constituency, has dedicated several years to cultivating various vegetables such as chillies, onions, and tomatoes. Sarkar is particularly known for his innovative approach to watermelon farming, growing a range of varieties—including red, yellow, and green-fleshed watermelons. Among these, yellow and green varieties have seen higher market demand, earning Sarkar significant profits through consistent sales.
Recognizing Sarkar’s contributions to agricultural self-sufficiency, the state Agriculture Minister, accompanied by the Director of the Agriculture Department, Dr. P.B. Jamatia, and other senior officials, visited Sarkar’s farm to assess the scope of his work. Representatives from the local community, including Kanchanmala Gram Panchayat Pradhan Rajesh Das, also joined the inspection.
Speaking to reporters during the visit, Minister Ratan Lal Nath highlighted the potential for self-employment through agriculture. “The government cannot provide a government job to everyone,” Nath stated, “but we encourage individuals to pursue agricultural initiatives, like Narayan Sarkar’s watermelon cultivation, to achieve financial independence. With dedication and initiative, it is possible to earn more than a government salary each month.”
Expressing admiration for Sarkar’s dedication, Nath added, “Narayan Sarkar has demonstrated what is possible through positive and proactive action. His watermelon farm boasts an array of delicious varieties, and his innovative cultivation techniques are truly commendable.”
The minister urged Sarkar to continue expanding his agricultural efforts and strive for excellence, encouraging him to work towards being recognized as one of the best farmers in the state. This visit underscores the government’s focus on promoting agricultural entrepreneurship and supporting farmers who contribute to the state’s economic and food security.
Narayan Sarkar, a beacon of agricultural success, expressed gratitude for the minister’s recognition and reiterated his commitment to advancing local farming practices. With continued support and encouragement from authorities, Sarkar aims to inspire others to explore the benefits of agriculture as a viable and rewarding livelihood.
