Bishalgarh police destroy 96,000 cannabis plants at Lalsingmura

Agartala, 7th December 2024:   In a significant crackdown on illegal cannabis cultivation, Bishalgarh Police Station staff destroyed 96,000 cannabis plants on government land in the Lalsingmura Banshibari area. The operation took place from Saturday morning to noon was led by OC Sanjit Sen and involved TSR, SPO, CRPF and women police personnel.

Acting on a secret tip-off, the police launched the operation to dismantle the cannabis garden, which had been established by dealers occupying government land. The dealers watched from a distance as the police destroyed their illicit crops.

“Every winter, cannabis dealers occupy government land in the deep jungle to create these gardens,” said OC Sanjit Sen. The police have initiated an investigation to identify those responsible for the illegal plantations.

The operation was conducted under the orders of the Sipahijala District Superintendent of Police, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug cultivation in the region.
