Agartala, 3rd August 2024:   As the 3-tier Panchayat elections approach, political fervor has gripped Kadamtala in North Tripura district. Both the ruling BJP and the opposition CPIM showcased their strength through a series of back-to-back meetings from Friday evening till night.

Friday, being the weekly market day at Kadamtala Bazaar was strategically chosen by both parties for their election campaigns. The Kadamtala-Kurti assembly constituency, traditionally a stronghold of the CPIM, is represented by MLA Islam Uddin of the CPIM.

The BJP kicked off their campaign with a massive procession starting from Kadamtala Nataraj Mukta Manch. The procession wound through the Kadamtala market area, culminating back at the Nataraj Mukta Manch, where a market meeting was held. Key speakers included BJP candidates from the Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti, and Gram Panchayats of the assembly area.

Addressing the gathering, BJP Minority Morcha Pradesh President Billal Miah emphasized the party’s growing influence. “BJP’s numbers are on the rise. This must be understood,” he declared. Miah also highlighted the state’s tumultuous history, citing numerous murders during the Left Front and Congress regimes. “Congress and CPIM did not deliver justice for those incidents. Now, Congress is asking for votes for CPIM. Everyone should know the history of Tripura,” he asserted.

Following the BJP’s meeting, the CPIM launched their campaign with an equally impressive procession that circled the Kadamtala market and concluded at the Nataraj Mukta Manch. The market meeting featured prominent speakers such as CPIM State Secretary and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury, North District Secretary Amitabh Dutta, Kadamtala-Kurti MLA Islam Uddin, and Yuvraj Nagar MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath.

In his address, CPIM State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury underscored the importance of rural communities. “More than 70% of people in the country live in villages. The country’s economy depends on agriculture. Most villagers rely on agriculture for their livelihood,” he said. Chowdhury criticized the BJP government for neglecting village panchayats and blocks, contrasting it with the Left Front’s practice of holding annual village meetings to highlight panchayat benefits.

Both parties demonstrated their organizational strength and commitment to their constituencies through these rallies and meetings. As the three-tier Panchayat elections draw near, the residents of Kadamtala will soon decide which party will earn their mandate.
