Agartala, 12th April 2026: During the ongoing elections for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) on Sunday, leaders from the BJP in Tripura alleged multiple incidents of intimidation, obstruction, and disruption at polling stations.
Polling for the 28 seats began at 7 a.m. across the region.
Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury claimed that BJP polling agents were forcibly removed from booths in Kuyai Chanbari, under the Jirania constituency. He said that upon receiving the information, he visited the area with local party members and contacted both administrative officials and tribal leaders. Following their intervention, the polling agents were allowed to return.
However, Chowdhury alleged that similar disturbances continued, including reports of outsiders assembling near polling stations and creating tension. He stressed that while voters must be allowed to exercise their democratic rights freely, polling agents should also be able to perform their duties without interference. He further described such incidents as unacceptable and claimed they were being reported from various parts of the state. He added that if voting is based on development, the BJP would secure victory, asserting that tribal communities recognize development under BJP governance.
Meanwhile, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath noted that voter turnout had been strong, attributing it to favorable weather conditions. At the same time, he alleged that BJP polling agents were missing from at least five booths in the Simna-Tamakari constituency of West District.
He also claimed that one polling station in the Bondhujungnagar-Wakinagar constituency did not have BJP polling agents present. Nath further stated that there were reports of voters initially being prevented from casting their votes in certain areas, though intervention by authorities later ensured the continuation of polling.
In addition, he mentioned incidents of intimidation and alleged that a vehicle belonging to a BJP candidate was attacked in the Mandwi constituency.
