Agartala, November 10: The Dharmanagar police have arrested a second accused in a brown sugar case that was registered on October 6. The accused, identified as Wajid Mia, aged 38, was nabbed from his house in Paschim Chandrapur village on Thursday night. He was allegedly involved in the brown sugar trade along with another person named Khokon Namasudra, who was arrested earlier.

According to the police, they had received a tip-off that Khokon Namasudra, a resident of Paschim Chandrapur, was in possession of 50 grams of brown sugar. A joint team of the Detective Bureau and the Dharmanagar police station raided his house on October 6 and seized the contraband. They also registered a case under Section 22B / 29 NDPS of the Indian Penal Code against him and his associate Wajid Mia, who managed to escape.

The police then launched a manhunt for Wajid Mia and received a secret information that he was hiding in his house in Ward No. 2 of Paschim Chandrapur. The police and the TSR forces conducted a raid on his house on Thursday night and arrested him. During the interrogation, Wajid Mia confessed to his involvement in the brown sugar business.

The police produced him in the court on Friday and sought his police remand. The police said that they are hopeful of getting more information about the brown sugar racket operating in the northern district and the state from him. They also said that they are trying to trace the source and the destination of the brown sugar supply.
