Cancer cases rises in state, detects more than 3000 cases in a year

Agartala: August 05. The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre has said that the number of cancer cases in state is rising because of tobacco and smoking.

While releasing a survey report on ‘Monitoring Survey of Cancer Risk Factor and Health System Response in North East Region (Tripura)’ Dr Gautam Majumder Medical Superintendent of ABV Regional Cancer Centre said that in 2020 new cancer cases were 17.3 lakh in the country while Tripura has registered 3050 cases in 2021.

“In 2001 we received cancer detected patients like below 500 in a year however after 22 years the cases are rising indiscriminately. As every year we are detected patients over 3000. At any times there are more than 12, 000 cancer patients prevalent in Tripura. Out these 12, 000 cancer patients last year total death occurred 1450. Among the cancer detected patients West district in top”, the doctor said.

 “Around 60% male are detects with Lung Cancer because of smoking while 40 % female are suffering breast cancer which was earlier uterus cancer because using of tobacco,” he said.

Dr Majumder have appealed the government to put a complete ban on tobacco and Smoking and urged the Department of Sports, Excise and Food to working together to reduce the number of cases.
