Agartala, 18th June 2025: In a swift response following a daring nighttime theft, police on Wednesday afternoon arrested a suspected serial thief involved in a break-in at a grocery shop located on Gokulnagar Roadhead near Roadhead College along the Agartala-Bishalgarh road.
Reportedly, the incident took place late last night when unidentified miscreants broke into the store owned by local businessman Raju Saha. The shop owner found the break-in the following morning upon opening his store and immediately alerted authorities.
Officers from the Bishalgarh police station arrived at the scene and reviewed footage from a CCTV camera installed inside the shop. The visuals captured a clear image of the perpetrator, enabling local residents and fellow shopkeepers to swiftly identify him. Acting on this, locals booked the suspect from a nearby area and handed him over to police without incident.
Preliminary investigations suggest the thief gained entry by cutting through the tin fencing at the rear of the store and made off with goods worth an estimated Rs 25,000. Police suspect the individual to be linked to a wider network of habitual offenders driven by drug dependency, an issue that continues to fuel petty crimes across the region.
Locals have raised concerns over the growing frequency of such incidents, questioning the feasibility of the state government’s vision for a drug-free Tripura. As authorities continue their crackdown, the arrest has once again spotlighted the urgent need for deeper interventions addressing the root causes of addiction-driven criminal activity.
