Agartala, 9th May 2025: The College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Lembucherra, is organizing a two-day event on May 9–10, 2025, featuring a Technology Showcasing-cum-Exhibition, Business Meet, and Think-A-Thon on Futuristic Education. Serving as a curtain-raiser to the University’s Fifth Convocation on May 11, the programme aims to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and academic-industry collaboration in agriculture and allied sectors.
The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Anil Kotmire, General Manager, NABARD with Guest of Honour along with Prof. Indira Sarangthem, Director of Instruction, CAU, Imphal; Prof. Ph. Ranjit Sharma, Director of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal; Dr. L. M. Garnayak, Director of Research, CAU, Imphal and Prof. A.B. Patel, Dean, College of Fisheries, CAU (Imphal), Lembucherra, Tripura.
A key attraction is the exhibition with 22 stalls by CAU colleges, ICAR institutes, KVKs, state departments, private organizations, and farmer groups. Live demonstrations highlight traditional and modern innovations including biochar production, bamboo crafts, pottery, fish-based ornaments, and handloom weaving.
Kotmire visited the stalls and interacted with exhibitors, applauding their efforts. In his welcome remarks, Prof. Ph. Ranjit Sharma, Director of Extension Education, emphasized the significance of the initiative and acknowledged the support of Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, CAU (Imphal). Prof. Indira Sarangthem, Director of Instruction, detailed the programme, noting that the Business Meet features 26 student-led presentations from 13 constituent colleges, spanning agriculture, fisheries, veterinary science, food technology, and agri-engineering.
Sudip Majumdar, Agripreneur and MD of BagmaAgri Producer Company, attended as Guest of Honour, sharing insights from his entrepreneurial journey and collaborations with NABARD, Tripura Gramin Bank, and CAU institutions. He encouraged students to pursue agri-based enterprises.
In his Chief Guest Address, Kotmire stressed the importance of market linkages and commercialization and reiterated NABARD’s commitment to supporting innovations in the Northeast.
Over 200 participants—including students, faculty, scientists, and industry professionals—joined the event.
Innovative student ideas presented during the Business Meet included: agri-services platform, AI livestock monitoring, veterinary e-marketplace AI pest management system, Integrated Fish Mall, and Banaia (banana fiber-based fashion).
Three standout models were selected for awards based on innovation, relevance, and scalability under, to be felicitated during the Convocation on May 11.
