Agartala, 26th June 2026: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted 11 individuals in connection with a terror conspiracy involving the Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of the banned Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). The chargesheet was filed on Friday before the NIA Special Court in Guwahati under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.
According to the NIA, the accused were actively associated with IMK, which was allegedly formed by senior JMB operative Imam Mahmud Habibullah to further the banned outfit’s activities in India. Investigators claim the group conspired to spread extremist ideology and strengthen its network across West Bengal, Assam, Tripura and other northeastern states.
The probe revealed that the accused allegedly engaged in radicalising vulnerable youth, organising secret meetings, conducting religious indoctrination sessions, distributing extremist literature and using digital platforms to recruit new members and promote anti-India propaganda.
The agency identified Nasimuddin as the alleged head of IMK’s operations in Assam, while Jagir Mia is accused of leading the outfit’s activities in Tripura.
During the investigation, the NIA seized several incriminating documents, electronic devices and digital records, which it said provide key evidence supporting the alleged conspiracy.
The case forms part of the NIA’s broader efforts to dismantle terror networks and curb the spread of extremist organisations operating within the country.
