Churaibari police seize 263 kg of ganja, arrest driver

Agartala, November 16, 2023: The Churaibari police station has achieved a major success in its anti-drug campaign by seizing 263 kg of dry ganja from a 12-wheeler lorry on Thursday. The driver of the lorry, Narayan Chandra Sarkar, was also arrested and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

According to Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty, the police received a tip-off that a large consignment of ganja was being transported from Agartala to Guwahati via Churaibari. Acting on the information, the police intercepted the lorry, bearing registration number NL01AG5879, around 12 noon and conducted a thorough search. They found 39 packets of dry cannabis hidden in the empty lorry and seized them.

Chakraborty said that the market value of the recovered ganja is estimated at four lakh rupees. He said that Sarkar, a resident of Bhattapukur area of AD police station, confessed to smuggling the ganja from Agartala to Guwahati. He said that the police of Churaibari police station have started further investigation to nab the other culprits involved in the racket.
