Agartala, 22nd November 2023 :   Tripura’s Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Tinku Roy, announced on Wednesday that the inauguration of the 67th National School Sports Under 17 Boys & Girls Yoga Competition in the state is scheduled for tomorrow. The five-day event will run until November 27.

During a press conference, Minister Roy shared that the competition will take place at the Netaji Subhas Regional Sports Training Center (NSRCC) Indoor Stadium. “Over 500 contestants from various states across the country are expected to participate. Currently, 351 players from 18 states and 3 Union Territories have registered, with 174 in the boys’ category and 177 in the girls’ category. This number is expected to increase by tomorrow,” stated Minister Roy.

Highlighting the significance of the event, the minister mentioned that while the state has previously hosted national school sports competitions in football and gymnastics for under-17 participants, this marks the first time a competition focusing on yoga events will be held. The judges for the competition will be sourced from outside the state.

Minister Roy also emphasized the substantial development of sports infrastructure in the state, attributing it to the dedicated efforts of the current state government. This progress has facilitated the growth of young athletes in Tripura, enabling them to compete at the national level.

The secretary of the sports department Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty said that tomorrow Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha will inaugurate the competition in the 67th National School Sports Under 17 Yoga event.

Various national school sports competitions have been successfully organized in the state before.
