Agartala, 4th August 2024:   Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha declared a substantial financial assistance package totaling over Rs 242.55 crore for relief and development in the Gandatwisa sub-division of Dhalai District on Sunday.

Dr. Saha toured various locations in the Gandatwisa sub-division, meeting with the victims and family members of Parameswar Reang, who was injured during an incident on July 7 at an Ananda Mela and later passed away on July 12 at GB Pant hospital.

Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Saha recounted the tragic events, noting that when Parameswar Reang’s body was brought back to Gandatwisa, protests ensued, resulting in several homes being attacked and residents seeking refuge in government-arranged relief camps.

Accompanied by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, DGP Amitabh Ranjan, DGP (Int) Anurag, Home Secretary Pradip Chakraborty, and other officials including Dhalai District Magistrate Saju Vaheed and SP Avinash Rai, Dr. Saha personally visited the affected areas. “I spoke with the victims and the family of the deceased. This incident is truly heartbreaking. Immediate steps were taken by the civil and police administration to monitor the situation. I also visited the relief camps to ensure the victims were receiving necessary assistance,” Dr. Saha stated.

Dr. Saha announced further measures to enhance security and support the affected families. “To fortify security in the 33KV and 30 Card areas, we are establishing security camps. For the family of Parameswar Reang, an additional Rs 4 lakh will be provided on top of the Rs 6 lakh already given,” he said.

He elaborated that 101 families were severely impacted, with Rs 95,000 already transferred to their accounts and an additional Rs 2.05 lakh to be provided. Families with severely damaged property received Rs 50,000 and will get another Rs 1 lakh, while those with partially damaged property received Rs 25,000 and will receive another Rs 25,000. Overall, 145 families have been affected, with Rs 1.14 crore already disbursed and an additional Rs 2.30 crore to be provided.

Dr. Saha also outlined plans for the broader development of Gandatwisa. “We are committing Rs 239 crore to around 17 projects, including the construction of Narayanpur Market, development of the Gandatwisa Ambassa road (51 km in length), and cage farming for fisheries at Dombur Lake,” he announced.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Saha emphasized the necessity of peace for development, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and Sabka Vishwas.’ “Those who conspire to create unrest will face strict actions under the law,” he affirmed.
