Agartala, 12th June 2025: Traffic control issues continue to plague Udaipur raising serious concerns among residents about road safety and congestion. Despite multiple designated traffic points, including police station corner, police officers are reportedly absent from duty on a regular basis, leaving critical intersections unsupervised. This lack of enforcement has emboldened reckless drivers, who are frequently seen speeding through city streets without consequence.
Adding to the frustration, allegations suggest that the traffic department is prioritizing fine collection over effective regulation. Rumors indicate that frequent penalty drives are being conducted to mask staff shortages and administrative lapses rather than to curb dangerous driving behaviors. While the department reportedly generates significant revenue through fines, questions remain about whether these efforts genuinely deter traffic violations.
Complaints have also surfaced regarding inappropriate behavior by traffic police during penalty collections. Several citizens have accused officials of harsh treatment and excessive fines, further fueling dissatisfaction with the department’s approach.
As one of the busiest cities after Agartala, Udaipur’s growing congestion demands urgent attention. However, with only two traffic signals installed, residents wonder whether the authorities have a viable plan to manage the city’s increasingly chaotic streets. Longstanding demands for additional signals at high-traffic areas including Chanban Subhash Bridge Corner, Thana Corner, Vivek Corner, Old Motor Stand and Dak Bunglow road near the Sub-Divisional Hospital have yet to be addressed.
Concerned citizens are now urging the administration to take decisive action. Calls for modern signal installations and improved traffic regulation have grown louder, with demands extending beyond the traffic department to district and sub-district police forces, municipal councils, and local authorities. The residents exhausted by prolonged congestion are hopeful that a comprehensive solution will soon be implemented.
