Agartala, 4th April 2024:   All India Congress Secretary Szarita Laitphlang raised serious allegations against the ruling party BJP, accusing them of violating the model code of conduct in the upcoming Lok Sabha and by-elections.

She asserted that despite the glaring violations, the Election Commission has failed to take appropriate action and highlighted the difficulty in meeting CEO to address grievances, emphasizing the lack of accessibility for concerned parties.

The Congress representative further alleged instances where Congress symbols such as flags and festoons were removed, only to be replaced by those of the BJP.

She also criticized the response of CEO to complaints, stating that demands for proof were unreasonable. Lightplang stressed that it is the duty of COs to gather evidence such as CCTV footage to identify perpetrators and take necessary action.

In a damning conclusion, she accused the BJP of undermining the country’s democracy for its own benefit, painting a picture of a democratic process being compromised for political gain.
