Congress slams BJP for ‘false promises’ and ‘injustice’ ahead of Lok Sabha polls

Agartala, February 17: The All India Congress spokesperson and media in-charge of the North East region, Mathew Antony, launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan on Saturday. He accused the BJP of being a ‘marketing company’ that has no integrity and is showing ‘big dreams’ to the people before the Lok Sabha elections.

Antony said that the biggest problem facing the country is unemployment, which has increased the most during the BJP’s tenure. He claimed that the BJP had come to power with the promise of creating 2 crore jobs a year, but failed to deliver on it. He also criticized the BJP for the abnormal rise in commodity prices, the imposition of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), and the plight of the farmers who are not getting fair prices for their crops.

He alleged that the BJP had given false promises to the farmers who had protested two years ago, and that more than 700 farmers had died in the agitation. He said that the farmers were still dissatisfied and had taken to the streets again. He also said that the BJP’s talk of increasing women’s power was hollow, as women were the most affected by the violence and injustice during the BJP’s rule. He cited the statistics of 31,568 rape cases registered in 2022, of which 86 are still pending.

He said that the BJP was making the poor poorer and the rich richer, and that the Congress was the only alternative party that could raise voice against it. He urged the people to stand by the Congress and fight against the BJP. He assured that if the Congress comes to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, it will give justice to the people of the country.

The press conference was attended by the Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha, MLA Gopal Roy, and other leaders.
