Agartala, 21st May 2025:   CPIM supporters in Sepahijala district have alleged that they are being denied benefits under the Rega work program and the housing scheme. According to party leaders, the alleged discrimination extends to the lack of geo-tracking for the residences of 110 individuals, all of whom are identified as Left supporters.

Sepahijala District Committee member Hiranmoy Narayan Debnath raised concerns regarding the deteriorating infrastructure, particularly in Debipur Panchayat under the Kamalasagar assembly constituency. He claimed that while brick-paved roads were laid during the previous Left government’s tenure, the current administration has not undertaken any maintenance or new paving projects, leaving residents to struggle with poor road conditions.

This afternoon, Debnath accompanied by other CPIM leaders submitted a memorandum to the Panchayat Secretary of Konaban and Debipur Panchayats criticizing the ruling party for the alleged negligence. He sought clarification on the lack of employment opportunities under the Rega scheme. In response, the Panchayat Secretary reportedly stated that the central government has not provided the necessary funds, leading to irregular work schedules. Workers, he alleged, receive wages inconsistently, with only 30 to 35 days of employment offered annually instead of the promised 200 days.

Further highlighting alleged irregularities, Debnath claimed that a government-funded construction project at Debipur school worth Rs 94 lakh, is being carried out using substandard materials and methods. Despite previous complaints, he stated that no corrective measures have been taken.

Several CPIM leaders including Konaban Local Committee member Rakhal Biswas and Left leaders Haripada Sarkar, Uttam Dutta, Ajit Sarkar and Roop Kumar Debbarma were present during the deputation. They have reportedly issued a time-bound ultimatum to the Panchayat Secretary, warning that failure to address the grievances within the stipulated period could lead to party-led protests.
