Daring theft at Madhupur market and Ram Thakur Seva Mandir

Agartala, 20th February 2025:    A daring theft has taken place at Madhupur Market and the adjacent Ram Thakur Seva Mandir. Thieves now appear to be targeting temples and mosques with several such incidents reported across the state in recent months.

This morning, the priest of Ram Thakur Seva Mandir found that thieves had cut through the tin walls of the ashram using sharp weapons breaking into the donation box and stealing all the money. Additionally, they broke into an almirah and stole brass plates and glasses used for worship. The ashram committee secretary, upon receiving the news, rushed to the scene and confirmed the theft. He suspects local involvement, estimating that more than Rs 10,000 to 15,000 was stolen from the box.

In recent times, some youths driven by addiction to yaba tablets and cough syrup have resorted to theft when denied money by their parents. A few years back, the ashram had also faced a similar theft. The police were quickly informed and they are currently investigating the matter.

Notably, on February 23 and 24, the ashram will host its annual festival and devotees had recently donated money to the donation box for the occasion. The thieves took advantage of this and fled with the collected funds. On the same night, thieves targeted the “New Fashion” clothing store in Madhupur Market owned by Shantu Das.
