Agartala, 27th July 2026 : The Indian National Congress staged a gherao at Dharmanagar police station today, demanding the arrest of miscreants accused of attacking the Youth Congress General Secretary and the NSUI North Tripura District President. Party leaders alleged that the assault was carried out by followers of local MLA Jahar Chakraborty.
Congress representatives told the media that the attack was pre-planned and took place on Saturday night. Despite filing a detailed FIR, they accused police of remaining inactive under political influence. Following assurances from the SDPO and administrative officials, the protest was temporarily withdrawn. However, Congress has issued a 24-hour ultimatum, warning of road blockades, renewed gheraos, and even hunger strikes if arrests are not made.
