Agartala, 15th October 2025:  The 13-member elected committee overseeing Durga Chaumuhani Market formally resigned today following the end of its tenure, marking the conclusion of a 17-year-long administration.

The committee, led by secretary Tapas Ghosh, was originally elected during the tenure of the Left Front government and has since remained at the helm of market affairs. Ghosh, a prominent figure during the Left regime, continued to serve as secretary throughout the committee’s extended term.

With the resignation now official, attention turns to the Agartala Municipal Corporation and whether the Mayor will appoint an interim committee or initiate fresh elections to restore administrative continuity.

Local traders have urged the authorities to conduct elections without delay, emphasizing the need for a properly constituted committee ahead of the upcoming Harinam Sankirtan festivities. They argue that a democratically elected body is essential to ensure smooth market operations during the event.
