Agartala, 15th May 2025:  Left-wing youth organizations have intensified their demands for the Tripura government to urgently fill vacant posts in various departments and abolish the practice of contractual appointments. At a press conference held at Chhatra-Yuva Bhavan here on Thursday, Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) State Secretary Nabarun Deb outlined the alarming number of vacancies across state government offices and called for swift action.

Deb sharply criticized the ruling BJP government, alleging that its tenure has led to the deterioration of essential sectors like health and education. “The state is facing a crisis of unemployment and rampant drug addiction, which is destroying the youth,” Deb asserted, questioning why Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha is prioritizing de-addiction centers while failing to crack down on those fueling the crisis. “Why is the government not taking the necessary steps to arrest the main accused and curb addiction from the root?” he asked.

Raising concerns about the state’s educational infrastructure, Deb highlighted that 2,167 higher secondary schools are operating without a principal, leaving them without proper leadership. He further stated that according to assembly records, there are 51,000 vacancies across various departments as of 2025. “The last engineering appointment happened in 2017, during the tenure of the Left Front government. Since then, critical positions in healthcare—doctors, nurses, and health workers—have remained unfilled,” he said.

In a separate statement, the Left Youth Student Organization condemned remarks made by Madhya Pradesh BJP Minister Vijay Shah regarding Colonel Sophia Qureshi following the Indian Army’s recent retaliatory strike against terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strike, carried out on May 7, was part of Operation Sindoor, which was detailed in a press briefing by Colonel Qureshi and Air Force Wing Commander Bhoomi Singh. “We strongly denounce such comments,” the organization declared, calling for respect towards the armed forces.

The youth organizations reaffirmed their stance, warning of continued protests if their demands are ignored. “The government must take immediate steps to fill these vacancies and ensure proper governance. Otherwise, we will escalate our movement in the coming days,” Deb cautioned.
