Agartala, 1st July 2024:   The Emergency period of 1975 remains infamous as a dark chapter in the history of Indian democracy, created by the abuse of constitutional rights for political purposes and the curtailment of citizens’ rights for 21 months.

This was the somber message delivered by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha while addressing students at a one-day symposium titled “Emergency Provisions under Indian Constitution: Retrospective and Prospective,” organized by National Law University Tripura on Monday.

In his address, Chief Minister Saha detailed the emergency situation, expressing lament over the period. Following his speech, he interacted with students, inquiring about their studies and expressing hope that they would bring honor to the state and country in the future.

The event was also attended by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, State Home Secretary P Chakraborty, and various educationists, who addressed the students alongside the Chief Minister.
