In a tragic incident on Saturday, an unnumbered auto returning from the weekly market of Bir Chandra Manu in Santirbazar subdivision lost control and crashed, resulting in one fatality and two injuries. The deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Parimal Sarkar, a resident of the Matai area of Belonia sub-division.
The injured, Maran Shil, were also returning from the same market when the accident occurred. It is reported that the auto driver and the deceased were under the influence of alcohol, which led to the driver losing control of the vehicle due to high speed.
Following the accident, the auto driver and another passenger fled the scene. Firefighters from Santirbazar were quick to respond, rescuing the injured and transporting them to South Tripura District Hospital at Santirbazar.
In a separate incident on the same day, a woman named Shanti Devi Tripura from the Manirampur area was hit by a scooty in the Kalsirmukh area under Baikhora police station. She was initially taken to Baikhora Primary Health Center for treatment, but was later referred to South Tripura District Hospital due to the severity of her injuries.
