Agartala, 11th March 2025 : The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Udaipur sub-division of Tripura’s Gomati district detained five Bangladeshi nationals who had entered India illegally using fake Aadhaar cards. They were on their way to Gujarat in search of employment.
According to an official from the GRP, authorities received a tip-off early in the morning about the presence of illegal immigrants at Udaipur Railway Station. Acting on the information, police launched a search operation as the Kanchanjunga Express was approaching the station.
“During our search, we noticed one male and four females behaving suspiciously. Upon questioning, they produced Aadhaar cards, which appeared to be forged. When we interrogated them further, they confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals who had crossed the border illegally with the assistance of a tout. Their plan was to travel to Gujarat via Sealdah in West Bengal. We have handed them over to the Tripura Police for further investigation,” the official said.
One of the detained individuals revealed to reporters that they had paid ₹15,000 to a tout to cross into India. “I am from Bangladesh, and we were charged ₹15,000 each to cross the border. The tout provided us with Aadhaar cards just yesterday. We crossed into India the day before yesterday and spent a night at the tout’s house. We were heading to Gujarat to find work because the cost of living in our country is extremely high, and the economic situation is deteriorating,” she stated.
