Agartala, 11th March 2025 : Former Minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Tuesday called upon CPIM party workers to join the Congress, asserting that the Left party has lost public support and stands little chance of returning to power in Tripura.
Speaking at a gathering organized by the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee in Agartala, Roy Barman, who is also a member of the Congress Working Committee, emphasized that communist ideologies do not have to be confined to the CPIM or other Left parties.
“I ask CPIM workers—can you return to power solely with the votes of your party members? Your strength lies in your primary members, but without broader public support, forming a government is impossible. I urge these CPIM workers not to waste their time with a party that no longer holds public trust. If you truly wish to remove the BJP from power, the only viable alternative is to join the Congress,” he said.
Roy Barman also launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP, accusing the government of failing the youth and neglecting employment opportunities. “In the last seven years, over 30,000 government employees have retired, yet numerous positions remain vacant. BJP leaders claim that around 13,000 jobs have been provided in the same period, but most of their promises have turned out to be hollow. The government is deceiving unemployed youth while indulging in corruption. It has become a government of commissions, with BJP leaders even engaging in land brokerage, illegally seizing property. The recent announcement by BJP National President JP Nadda about distributing scooters to girl students after clearing board exams is nothing but false propaganda,” he alleged. Highlighting the deteriorating situation in the state, Roy Barman claimed that businesses are under pressure, democracy is being stifled, and corruptin has reached alarming levels. “In the coming days, a political earthquake will shake Tripura,” he predicted.
