Agartala, 21st January 2026: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday night detained five persons while they were attempting to cross the international border in the Batadola area under Sonamura subdivision.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the 81st Battalion of the BSF. Among those detained is one Bangladeshi national, identified as Dhananjay Dhar (59), and four Indian nationals.
According to police sources, three of the Indian nationals—Tapan Kumar Ghosh (56), Saikat Choudhury (55) and Ajit Kumar Das (42)—are residents of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. The fourth Indian national, Rabin Mia (22), is a resident of the Sonamura police station area in Tripura.
After their detention, the BSF personnel handed over all five individuals to Sonamura police station. Police officials said a case has been registered under relevant sections of law and an investigation has been initiated.
Authorities are probing the motive behind the border crossing attempt and are examining whether others were involved in the incident.
