Agartala, 1st November 2025: Tension erupted at Bhagalpur area under Narsingarh today when former minister and senior CPIM leader Pabitra Kar along with other Left-affiliated leaders faced strong public outrage during a membership and fundraising campaign for the All India Krishak Sabha.
It is reported that the Left leaders were conducting a door-to-door drive seeking membership and financial contributions from local farmers when residents confronted them, questioning their past governance record. The situation turned tense as angry locals accused the CPI(M) of exploiting farmers for decades and yet attempting to revive their influence under the guise of “people’s movements.”
One villager reportedly said, “What have they done for 25 years when they were in power? Now they are back asking for money again.” Eyewitnesses stated that the confrontation lasted several minutes before the leaders dispersed amid growing resentment.
The incident has been widely seen as a reflection of the growing disillusionment among people toward the Left, whose dominance in Tripura politics had lasted for a quarter of a century. Many locals claim the CPI(M) and its affiliated bodies like the Krishak Sabha had long neglected the real issues of rural development, employment, and farmers’ welfare while maintaining political control through cadre-based intimidation.
Reacting to the public backlash, BJP state spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee remarked, “The people who protested were not BJP workers — they were common citizens who still remember the misdeeds of the Left regime. This is the result of years of injustice and arrogance of CPI(M) leaders.”
The confrontation in Narsingarh, observers say, has once again exposed the fading public support for the Left and the growing anger of ordinary citizens who feel betrayed by decades of hollow promises and political opportunism.
