Agartala, 4th September 2024: Former Education minister Ratan Lal Nath on behalf of incumbent minister in-charge of Education department informed the house on Wednesday that the government will conduct Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) in 2024 and it was halted as there was a verdict of the Supreme Court regarding recruitment rules and conducting of this examination following necessary guidelines.
“As per the verdict of the Supreme Court of India and subsequent letter from National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) dated November 11, 2023, it has been stated that D.El.Ed passed candidates can appear for T-TET Paper-I examination. In this regard, the department has initiated the process for amending the Recruitment rules of UGT. After amending the recruitment rules, the process for recruitment will be initiated,” Nath said in the floor of the assembly monsoon session.
Replying to a query raised by Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, Nath said “In 2022, the number of T-TET passed candidates who have been issued T-TET Certificate is 197 for T-TET Paper-I and 169 for T-TET Paper-II. There are total 366 T-TET cleared candidates who got I-TET Certificate. But the department can provide job offers to 80 candidates of T-TET Paper-I as they have qualified D.El.Ed as per the verdict of the Supreme Court.”
Citing the reasons, minister said “The last T-TET examination was held on December 29, 2022 (T-TET Paper-II) and December 30, 2022 (T-TET Paper-I). Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT) conducts T-TET every year. However, Supreme Court of India has given judgement regarding applicability of B.Ed for UGT (T-TET Paper-I). Earlier, B.Ed passed candidates were eligible to apply for UGT (T-TET Paper-I) but die to the recent judgement, B.Ed is no more applicable for UGT (T-TET Paper-I).”
