Agartala, 3rd September 2024: In a significant move towards improving the state’s correctional facilities, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu visited the Central Correctional Facility in Bishalgarh on Tuesday. The Governor’s visit included a comprehensive tour of various houses and service facilities within the institution.
A senior state government official reported that Governor Reddy engaged in meaningful discussions with prison officials and inmates. He inquired about the benefits and challenges faced by the correctional facility. The Governor also visited several branches of the Vocational Training Center, emphasizing the importance of maintaining cleanliness throughout the institution.
During his visit, Governor Reddy interacted with inmates at the ‘Anand Theater,’ the first correctional facility’s dedicated space for inmate activities. He listened to the residents’ concerns and suggestions, and a memorandum was submitted to him by the inmates. The Governor also took the time to speak with female inmates and inquired about their well-being and that of their accompanying children.
Speaking to reporters after the visit, Governor Indrasena Reddy stated, “India’s jails are now not only run with the idea of punishment; they are now a place to correct wrongs. Attention is also paid to the fact that the convicts can correct their mistakes and lead a good life.”
The Governor was accompanied by IG Prisons Ramesh Reddy, Additional District Magistrate of Sepahijala district Jayanta Dey, District Superintendent of Police B.J. Reddy, Jail Superintendent and Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Vishalgarh Rakesh Chakraborty, among others.
