Agartala, 18th April 2026: Authorities in Tripura have seized a large consignment of illegal narcotic cough syrup in Bazarichara’s Churaibari area, marking the second such incident in just three days.
On Saturday afternoon, a six-wheeler truck (registration number AS25FC-6316) transporting online goods from Guwahati to Agartala was stopped at the Churaibari watch post. Gate in-charge Niranjan Das, along with his team, conducted a routine search of the vehicle. Hidden among the goods, officers discovered two wooden boxes containing 32,600 bottles of Eskaf cough syrup, a narcotic substance.
Police immediately detained the truck’s driver and co-driver, identified as Mofizul Islam and Suniti Ali, residents of Hajo and Nagaon in Assam. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are underway.
According to police sources, the seized cough syrup has an estimated black-market value of approximately ₹36 lakh.
The accused were held overnight at the police station and subjected to intensive interrogation. Authorities confirmed that they will be produced before the district Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on Sunday.
