India-Bangladesh Ties Set to Reach New Heights: Sushanta

Agartala, 22nd February 2026:  In a statement highlighting the enduring bond between India and Bangladesh, Sushanta Chowdhury, Tourism Minister , said that recent developments in neighboring Bangladesh have paved the way for a renewed phase of bilateral cooperation.

He announced that the office of the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Agartala is expected to resume visa services shortly, a move that is likely to benefit citizens on both sides of the border.

The Minister observed that several incidents in Bangladesh over the past year were reviewed at the highest levels, including discussions involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. He remarked that while certain events had raised concerns, India — and Tripura in particular — has always regarded Bangladesh as more than just a neighboring country.

“Tripura has never considered Bangladesh a foreign nation; we see it as part of our extended family. We sincerely hope that the people of Bangladesh, guided by democratic principles, continue striving for their nation’s growth and prosperity,” he said.

Referring to Bangladesh’s recent general elections, which saw Tarique Rahman assume office as Prime Minister, Chowdhury emphasized that adherence to the rule of law is essential for national progress and stable international relations.

He further noted that cross-border bus services — Maitree and Shyamali — connecting Tripura and Bangladesh, which had remained suspended for nearly 18 months, have now resumed operations. Additionally, confirmation from the Assistant High Commissioner’s office in Agartala about the imminent restart of visa processing has been welcomed as a positive step.

According to the Minister, these developments are expected to deepen cooperation between India and Bangladesh across trade, commerce, tourism, and cultural exchange.

“India has never viewed Bangladesh as an adversary. With renewed connectivity and cooperation, our bilateral ties are poised to scale new heights,” he concluded.
