Agartala, 3rd January 2026:   A wave of grief has swept through Kailashahar following the untimely death of 19-year-old Sujata Dasgupta (Jui), a bright student whose life was cut short after prolonged illness.

Sujata had been suffering from abdominal complications since Durga Puja. Initially admitted to a local private hospital, her condition worsened, prompting transfers first to a reputed hospital in the state capital and later to Hyderabad for advanced treatment. Despite undergoing surgery on December 28 last, she never regained consciousness and passed away on December 31.

Daughter of college teacher Shantashree Majumdar and social worker Shyamal Dasgupta, Sujata lived with her family in Kailashahar’s Madhyapara area. Her body was brought home late Thursday night, where relatives, neighbors, and well-wishers gathered in mourning. The funeral was held yesterday at Kailashahar crematorium.

The sudden demise of the talented young student has left the entire town in shock, with residents struggling to come to terms with the loss of a promising life at such a young age.
