Agartala, 29th March 2025: Despite the clock striking this noon, the animal treatment center under the Animal Resources Development Department situated near Kanchanmala Bazar in Golaghati remained locked. Residents were left disappointed as they found no helper or doctor present at the facility.
Several locals visited the center that afternoon to seek medicine for their livestock, including ducks, chickens, cows, and goats. However, the closed doors forced them to return home empty-handed. “This center is often closed, and we are left without the medicine our animals urgently need,” lamented a local woman who had come for treatment. She further added that such situations are frequent, causing frustration among the community.
According to the residents, the government established this animal treatment center to serve the needs of the area. However, they claim the intended services are not being delivered. Previous media reports have highlighted this recurring issue, yet no substantial action has been taken by the Animal Resources Development Department.
One resident recalled a conversation with the doctor assigned to the center, who revealed that he is responsible for multiple animal treatment centers, including the one at Kanchanmala. “Why hasn’t the department hired more doctors to address this problem?” questioned a frustrated villager, adding that the lack of adequate staffing is a persistent issue.
The community urges the State Animal Resources Development Department to act swiftly, ensuring timely and consistent medical care for domestic animals. “Our animals deserve better. We demand immediate measures for the welfare of our livestock and birds,” said one resident on behalf of the community.
