Agartala, 4th December 2024: The Khowai District Little Magazine Forum has formally requested the Chairperson of Khowai Municipal Council Debasish Nath Sharma to organize a book fair in Khowai before the scheduled book fair in Agartala. On Tuesday afternoon, a delegation from the forum met with Chairperson Nath Sharma and presented a public petition.
The delegation included Khowai District Little Magazine Forum Secretary Jaharlal Das, Assistant Secretary Sumita Roy, Treasurer Dipen Nath Sharma, Member Sourapratim Sharma, and members Karuna Debnath and Chandana Dey among others. The forum highlighted the history of book fairs in Khowai, noting that the first book fair took place in 2002, followed by events in 2007, 2015, and 2016. The most recent fair was held in 2022 at the Chitrangada Kala Kendra in Teliamura.
“We are keen to revive the tradition of book fairs in Khowai and believe it will significantly benefit the community. The last fair was held in 2022, and we hope to have another before the Agartala event,” said Secretary Jaharlal Das.
The forum’s petition emphasized the cultural and educational importance of such events, urging the Chairperson to consider their request favorably. “We have received a lot of support from the community for this initiative. Holding a book fair in Khowai will not only promote reading but also bring people together,” added Assistant Secretary Sumita Roy.
Chairperson Nath Sharma acknowledged the petition and assured the delegation that their request would be considered. “We understand the significance of book fairs in fostering a love for reading and education. The administration will review the petition and make a decision soon,” he stated.
