Agartala, 13th March 2025: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sepahijala, CAU (I), Tripura organized “Awareness Programme on Scientific Cultivation of Sesame” at Dakshin Charilam, Charilam R.D Block, Sepahijala Tripura on 11th March, 2025. The programme was organized under the technical guidance of Dr. Th. Robindro Singh, Deputy Director of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal: Prof. Ph. Ranjit Sharma, Director of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal and Dr. A.K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Umiam. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, CAU, Imphal. The objective of the programme was to raise awareness among farmers about the scientific cultivation practices of sesame. The programme was coordinated by Directorate of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal and sponsored by ICAR-Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Th. Robindro Singh, Deputy Director of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal in presence of Khela Bhowmik Nath, Chairman, Charilam; Radhaballab Debnath, Vice-Chairman, Charilam; Dr. Shatabhisa Sarkar, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Sepahijala; Dr. Utpal Dey, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), Pijush Debbarma, Program Assistant (Lab Tech), KVK Sepahijala and others.
At the outset of the programme, Dr. Th. Robindro Singh, Deputy Director of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal accentuated on the importance of growing oilseed crops viz., sesame, sunflower, safflower etc. Dr. Singh also highlighted its nutritional value, medicinal properties and economic benefits.
Khela Bhowmik Nath, Chairman, Charilam expressed her experiences on
sesame cultivation and also expressed gratitude to KVK-Sepahijala for taking many activities in different villages of Carilam R.D Block, Sepahijala Tripura for the benefit of farming community.
Radhaballab Debnath, Vice-Chairman, Charilam encouraged the farmers for promotion of area under sesame etc
Jalal Miah, progressive farmers, Dakshin Charilam , emphasized on area expansion under oilseed crop for improving soil fertility.
Dr Utpal Dey, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK Sepahijala gave an insight into the importance seed treatment, spacing, selection of variety, etc
Thirty interested farmers, farm women, rural youth were actively participated in the programme and discussed on different issues related to scientific cultivation practices of sesame. Fungicides were distributed among the farmers to encourage the farmers. The programme was organized under the guidance of Prof. Arun Bhai Patel, Dean, College of Fisheries, Lembucherra and supervision of Dr. Shatabhisa Sarkar, Senior Scientist of KVK Sepahijala. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Utpal Dey, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK Sepahijala.
