Agartala, 11th June 2024:  In a display of frustration over persistently dilapidated road conditions, residents of Tirthamukh Rambhadra, Bholanath, situated under the Korbook sub-division, staged a protest by blocking the road since Tuesday morning. The blockade resulted in numerous vehicles being stranded on both ends of the road, exacerbating the inconvenience faced by commuters.

Responding to the escalating situation, authorities from the Jatanbari outpost and Natunbazar police station promptly arrived at the scene upon receiving notification of the blockade.

Upon engaging with the protesters, it was revealed that their primary demand was to initiate dialogue with officials from the PWD regarding the deplorable state of the roads.

However, tensions rose when Samir Debbarma, an official from the PWD, arrived to address the grievances of the protesters. The demonstrators expressed agitation at the response they received from the officer.

In a bid to alleviate the situation, the official conducted an inspection of the deteriorated roads and pledged to correspond with the protesters in writing. However, the protesters insisted on obtaining the signature of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate on the written assurance.

Furthermore, the demonstrators pressed for immediate action, demanding the procurement of road repair materials to commence the necessary repairs without delay. Subsequently, upon receiving written confirmation of the provision of road repair materials, the villagers relented and lifted the blockade.

Speaking on behalf of the demonstrators, it was emphasized that the prolonged neglect of the 7-kilometer stretch of road has inflicted daily hardships upon approximately three hundred families residing in the area. The dire condition of the road not only poses risks of accidents but also impedes crucial transportation, including the transfer of patients in ambulances.

The residents reiterated their demand for urgent repairs to ensure the safety and convenience of all affected individuals.
