Agartala, 5th November 2025:  After evading arrest for nearly four years, alleged human and cattle trafficker Hridoy Das was finally booked by local residents yesterday while reportedly in possession of contraband cough syrup and cannabis. The citizen’s arrest took place in the Arbindranagar border area, where Das had long been a familiar yet elusive figure.

Locals informed that the residents detained Das and subjected him to a public thrashing before handing him over to Madhupur police. The accused had been absconding for years despite facing multiple charges, including human trafficking, cattle smuggling, and illegal arms possession, registered at both Bishalgarh and Madhupur police stations.

Sources within law enforcement confirmed that Das’s photograph had been on display at the Kiyadhepa BSF camp due to his alleged involvement in cross-border trafficking. He is suspected of facilitating the illegal movement of Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals across the Indo-Bangladesh border, exploiting his residence’s proximity to the Arbindranagar frontier.

Das had previously been arrested and jailed for similar offenses but reportedly resumed his illicit activities upon release. Local sources allege that he received support from another suspected trafficker, identified as Mamun Mia, a local schoolteacher.

This afternoon, Madhupur police produced Das before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court, initiating legal proceedings on the pending cases. Residents, long tormented by his activities, have expressed relief at his capture and are now demanding strict legal action.

The community remains watchful as authorities proceed with the investigation, hoping this marks the end of a prolonged chapter of fear and lawlessness in the border region.
