Agartala, 26th April 2024: In remote areas across the state, a palpable sense of disillusionment with electoral promises and lack of development has prompted a significant number of voters boycott during the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in Tripura.
Despite the customary flurry of electioneering activities, with candidates traversing door-to-door promising transformative change, the stark reality remains unchanged for many residents of remote areas. Once elected, leaders seem to abandon their pledges, opting for luxury over fulfilling the needs of their constituents.
This sentiment found expression in the boycott witnessed at Sadai Para’s Booth No. 5, where over six hundred voters refrained from participating in the electoral process. Their collective grievance stemmed from the neglect of essential infrastructure such as roads and access to clean drinking water in their village.
The polling station stood deserted as morning dawned, with villagers steadfast in their resolve to abstain from voting. Attempts by visiting leaders to coax them into participation only fueled their frustration, culminating in a road blockade. Law enforcement agencies intervened, yet failed to comprehend the depth of disenchantment among the populace.
Similar scenes took place at a polling station in Ampi assembly constituency, where voters mirrored their counterparts’ stance, citing the absence of developmental initiatives as the reason behind their electoral apathy.
In essence, the message conveyed by these actions is crystal clear: villagers demand tangible progress before casting their votes.
