Agartala, 9th August 2025:  In a bid to raise public awareness about malaria prevention, the Rupaichari Primary Health Centre organized a rally on the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day. The initiative aimed to spread the message that awareness is the most powerful weapon against malaria, a life-threatening disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite and transmitted through mosquito bites.

Students from PM SHRI Chatakchari English Medium School actively participated in the rally, which inspired local residents to adopt healthier practices and remain vigilant against mosquito-borne illnesses.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Manis Choudhury, District Malaria Officer of South Tripura district emphasized, “The only way to protect oneself from malaria is to avoid mosquito bites. Everyone must remain alert.” He recalled that South Tripura once ranked second in the state for malaria cases.

Thanks to sustained efforts by the government and the health department, the situation has significantly improved. Dr. Choudhury cited data showing that over 3,000 cases were reported in South Tripura in 2023, which dropped to around 600 in 2024. So far in 2025, nearly 95,000 blood samples have been tested, with only 155 confirmed malaria cases.

The rally underscored how coordinated action and heightened public awareness can help control even the deadliest diseases. Among those present at the event were Dr. Rahul Das, MOIC Rupaichari; Biswajit Raj, Malaria Technical Supervisor, Sabroom; and social worker Saudi Mog.
