Agartala, 1ST June 2026: Tension and concern gripped the Barkhola area under Bijoynagar in Sabroom subdivision after the body of a man was recovered today morning.The deceased has been identified as Tapan Majumdar (57), a resident of the locality.
According to family members, Majumdar did not return home on Saturday night. However, as he was known to spend nights away from home on several occasions, his absence initially did not raise any alarm.Local residents alleged that Majumdar had been struggling with substance abuse for a long time.
On Sunday morning, locals spotted him lying unconscious in a field in the area and immediately informed his family. Family members rushed to the spot, and the police were subsequently notified.
Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.Preliminary investigations suggest that excessive intoxication may have been the cause of death. However, police officials stated that the exact cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem report is received.Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
