Agartala, 6th April 2025: A man was seriously injured in a knife attack over a debt of just ₹500 in the Shubhapur Mastan Tila area under Sonamura police station yesterday.
The victim, Khurshed Alam, son of Nunu Miah and a resident of Ward No. 1 of Shubhapur Gram Panchayat, was allegedly attacked by Selim Miah, a local resident from the same area.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred in front of the chamber of the Shahapur Mastan Tila Assam Huzur, when Selim Miah confronted Khurshed Alam and demanded repayment of ₹500 he had previously lent him. When Khurshed Alam responded that he would repay the amount after a few days, a heated argument broke out between the two, quickly escalating into a scuffle.
Amid the altercation, Selim Miah reportedly drew a knife from his waist and stabbed Khurshed Alam in the neck. Hearing his cries for help, locals rushed to the scene, prompting Selim to flee immediately.
Khurshed was quickly taken by his relatives to the Sonamura Social Health Center, where doctors administered two stitches to his neck. Following medical treatment, he was taken to Sonamura Police Station, where his family lodged a complaint against the accused.
The police have registered a case and begun an investigation. Meanwhile, Khurshed Alam and his family are demanding strict action and justice.
Police are currently on the lookout for Selim Miah, who remains absconding as of the filing of this report.
