Agartala, 2nd August 2025: In a major crackdown on illegal drug cultivation, Bishalgarh and Sidhai police stations staff achieved significant success in their ongoing anti-narcotics operations across Tripura.
Acting on a tip-off, the Bishalgarh police launched a swift operation early Friday morning in the Gazaria area, targeting marijuana cultivation allegedly underway along the southern banks of the Bijoy River in Gazaria Gram Panchayat. Led by Officer-in-Charge Bijoy Das and supported by the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), the team uprooted and destroyed approximately 1.2 lakh marijuana plants.
“This action was based on intelligence received earlier today. We will continue such operations relentlessly to curb drug cultivation in the region,” said an official from Bishalgarh Police Station.
Meanwhile, in a parallel anti-drug operation, the Sidhai police recovered 88 kg of dried marijuana from a residence in Mantala Uttar Para, under Mohanpur assembly constituency. The cannabis was found packed in a large drum. Authorities said the house was raided following a late-night tip-off, although the suspected homeowner reportedly fled before officers arrived.
Both operations mark a strong stance by the Tripura police against narcotics proliferation, with officials affirming that such drives will intensify in the coming days.
