Agartala, 2nd August 2025:   Concerns are mounting over alleged irregularities at the West Khilpara Anganwadi Kendra under the Matabari CDPO, where locals claim students are absent despite the presence of teaching staff.

According to community members, worker Anna Begum in charge of the Kendra rarely maintains regular hours often arriving well past the designated 7 am start time. “Sometimes she turns up at nine, sometimes at twelve. How will the children learn if she doesn’t follow the schedule?” asked a local resident on condition of anonymity.

The absence of students has fueled suspicions that Begum may be selling government-allotted provisions rice and pulses meant for the children in the open market. “We haven’t seen the children receive protein-rich foods like eggs or suji in months. This is not just negligence, it feels like exploitation,” said another resident.

This morning, Begum was reportedly absent until 9 am prompting concern among helpers. When contacted, she appeared at the Kendra and defended her conduct. “I have not been well for a few days. That’s why I’ve been delayed. The people accusing me are spreading lies,” she told reporters.

She also pointed to systemic delays in government support as part of the issue. “The bills haven’t been cleared in four months. Without funds, I couldn’t distribute eggs since April,” Begum added.
