Agartala, 21st February 2024: The miscreants destroyed an agricultural field belonging to farmer Haripada Das, also known as Muru Das, under the cover of darkness in the Sonamura police station in the Garur Band area. Haripada, who relies on agriculture as his sole source of income, is spending the day in distress with his wife and two small children. Despite facing challenges, he had managed to find some financial relief by cultivating off-season vegetables. However, the recent incident left him devastated as his field was vandalized by unidentified individuals.
The miscreants carried out their destructive act with such cold precision that they took measures to avoid leaving any footprints. Haripada expressed his helplessness, stating that he had invested Rs 16 thousand in the field. If the crop had not been destroyed, he estimated it could have been sold for two and a half to three lakh rupees.
Sources indicate that the involvement of other farmers in the destruction of the crop is suspected. Farmer leader Sanjay Das, Sector Officer, and Chairman of Mohanbhog RD Block, Jitendra Das, upon learning about the incident, promptly visited and consoled the distressed farmer.
