Agartala, 10th August 2025: In a shocking incident, a five-month-old girl was allegedly killed by her mother in Rampada Para ADC Village under Sonamura police station in Sepahijala district.
The accused, identified as Suchitra Debbarma, was handed over to police by her family members after the incident.According to police sources, Suchitra allegedly suffocated her infant daughter to death on Sunday afternoon. Family members claim the motive was linked to her alleged extramarital relationship, which had reportedly been ongoing for about a year.
Suchitra’s husband, Amit Debbarma, works as a tapper in a local rubber plantation. Relatives allege that local residents had taunted the family, questioning the paternity of the child, which may have led Suchitra to take the drastic step.
After being alerted, police recovered the child’s body and sent it to Sonamura Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The incident has caused widespread outrage in the area, with locals demanding stringent punishment for the accused. Police have registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation.
