Agartala, 2nd April 2025: MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday raised a significant concern regarding the utilization of unspent funds allocated to various projects. Addressing the Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Deb emphasized the need for these funds to be redirected towards developmental initiatives in the North Eastern States, rather than being transferred after the stipulated time.
Deb’s appeal highlighted the importance of ensuring that the allocated resources are effectively utilized to address the unique challenges faced by the region. “The North Eastern States deserve focused attention and dedicated resources to drive their development. Unspent funds should not go to waste but should be channeled into meaningful projects that benefit the people of this region,” Deb stated passionately.
Responding to the MP’s concerns, Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reassured the House that the government is committed to the development of the North Eastern States. He explained, “Ministers of various departments are fully aware of the 10 percent Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) allocated to 54 central ministries. Decisions regarding the utilization of these funds are taken unanimously by the ministers of these ministries to ensure the region’s progress.”
Scindia further elaborated on the government’s efforts over the past three years, revealing that 103 percent of the unspent funds from the 54 central ministries have been released for the development of the North Eastern States. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has personally directed central ministers to release additional funds for the region’s development. So far, approximately Rs 1,02,074 crores of unspent funds have been allocated to various projects in the North Eastern States,” he added.
The minister’s remarks highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering growth and addressing the needs of the North Eastern region. This development is expected to pave the way for enhanced infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other critical sectors in the area.
