Agartala, 23rd June 2025: Tension resurfaced in the Maiganga Gram Panchayat under Teliamura RD Block this morning after the main gate of the panchayat office was discovered locked with two padlocks under mysterious circumstances. The incident comes just days after a similar protest by locals demanding the resignation of the panchayat head.
According to official sources, the office staff arrived around 10:00 AM only to find the entrance sealed. Despite a thorough search, no individual or group claimed responsibility for the act. With no leads, the Panchayat in-charge lodged a formal complaint at Teliamura police station.
Responding swiftly, the Panchayat Extension Officer and a team from Teliamura police station reached the site. Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO) Pannalal Sen also arrived shortly after and ordered the locks to be broken, allowing administrative work to resume under police supervision.
Speaking to reporters, SDPO Sen stated, “Legal action will be taken against those who locked the Panchayat office. This is a criminal offense, and we are actively investigating to identify the culprits.”
This marks the second such disruption in less than ten days. On the previous Saturday, agitated residents had locked the same office and staged a road blockade, demanding the resignation of the Panchayat Pradhan. That standoff was resolved following administrative intervention.
The recurrence of such incidents has raised serious concerns about governance and public trust in the Maiganga Panchayat. As investigations continue, the motive and identity behind today’s unauthorized lockdown remain unclear.
