Agartala, 6th January 2026: In a bid to boost bamboo artisans’ financial growth and to modernize bamboo jewellery practices, the NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT) has distributed the green tools kit to six number bamboo artisans of Charilam area under Sepahijala District Tripura, those are trained in the line of bamboo jewellery products from NBIRT and presently they are doing the business.
The initiative has taken by NBIRT with the support of SUNIL project, SEED Division, Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The objectives of the program is to enhance the production of bamboo based jewellery items by reduce the products cost using improved green tools kit.
The distribution program held today at conference hall of NBIRT, Arkaneer, Sekerkote were attended by Khela Bhowmik, Chairperson, Charilam Panchayat Samiti, Charilam RD Block, Hony. Vice-president and other officials of NBIRT. While deliver the speech, chief guest Khela Bhowmik highlighted that, only ‘self employment is the gateway of women employment’. In her address, Smt. Bhowmik also highlighted the need and importance of this type of hands on training especially for rural women. At the end, all the guests handed over the tools kit to the successful bamboo artisans.
The tools kit recipients are Jayanti Das, Rakhi Das Poddar, Mani Ghosh, Dipa Sutradhar, Kusum Debnath, Debabrata Das. The bamboo artisans expressed their immense gratitude to NBIRT for the tools & tackles.
Notably, NBIRT led the bamboo jewellery making training initiative in Tripura in 2024, marking a significant milestone for local bamboo artisans specially for Charilam with the guidence of Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Gon Chaudhuri, Hony. President of NBIRT.
Upon successful completion of the training programme, 30 artisans were equipped with green tools-kit. Presently many are running their own business as well as few artisan are working as master trainers in different areas.
