No vending after 11 pm, three new pump sets soon: Mayor

Agartala, 31st January 2026:   Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) will launch an eviction drive from February 3 against individuals and traders who are illegally running businesses by encroaching on public land in Agartala city.

Additionally, traders operating illegally at Battala Howrah Market without valid AMC documents have been given time until February 7 to vacate the area. If they fail to do so, AMC will begin an eviction drive at Howrah Market from February 8.

The decision was taken during a meeting held at the AMC conference hall on Wednesday, chaired by Agartala Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder.

The meeting was attended by AMC corporators, Municipal Commissioner Saju Vahid A, officials from the Traffic Department, Task Force, Public Works Department, and Agartala Smart City authorities.

Speaking at a press conference held at the AMC conference hall today, Mayor Dipak Majumder said that Agartala city is witnessing rapid population growth, increasing traffic congestion, and the development of large shopping malls. Keeping in mind the population growth over the next 20 years, AMC has prepared a comprehensive plan to systematically develop the city.

He informed that the state government has initiated steps to develop Agartala, Dharmanagar, and Udaipur as satellite towns. There is also a proposal under consideration for constructing another flyover in Agartala. Plans are in place to install three new pump sets at Shakuntala Road, Ramnagar Road No. 4, and near Satsangha Ashram to improve drainage.

The Mayor stated that AMC is committed to keeping the city clean and beautiful. Strict action will be taken against businesses operating outside designated vending zones and vehicles parked outside parking zones. Vendors holding valid AMC licenses and operating movable pushcarts measuring 6 feet by 4 feet will be allowed to conduct business in the city till 11 PM.

He further said that AMC, in coordination with the Traffic Department, will ensure that vehicles are not parked over covered drains. Restaurants, small hotels, and food stalls constructed over covered drains will be removed to facilitate smooth movement of pedestrians.

Mayor Majumder said that Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha has directed authorities to maintain cleanliness and beautification of Agartala city. In this regard, the Chief Minister has announced a Cleanliness Award Scheme. Under the scheme, clubs and social organizations contributing to cleanliness will be awarded:

He added that multiple development projects are currently in progress in AMC areas with the joint efforts of AMC, Agartala Smart City, PWD, Drinking Water, and Health departments, and these works will be completed soon. During road construction, special arrangements will be made to protect underground cables.

The Mayor also warned that no advertisements will be allowed without state government approval. AMC will take action against unauthorized advertisements displayed on government offices, buildings, and light posts.
